About

A calm place to optimize household spending.

Saving Optimizer is a Canadian guide site for middle-aged adults who are tired of paying more than they need to — and equally tired of advice written for twenty-somethings or Bay Street.

Who this is for

If you run a household in Canada, you already know the pressure points: groceries that creep up, a hydro bill that spikes in January, a car that quietly costs a second rent, and a closet or gadget drawer that never quite feels “done.”

We write for men and women in that season of life — people who will change a habit if it is clear, fair, and worth the effort. We assume you can do math. We do not assume you have a spare Saturday for coupon theatre.

How we write

Canadian first. That means TFSAs and RRSPs when investing context matters, provincial energy markets when we talk hydro, and loyalty programs you can actually use at No Frills, Sobeys, or Metro — not US circulars.

Practical over hype. If a “hack” only works if you drive across town for $1.80, we will say so. If a heat pump is a five-figure decision, we will not pretend a draft snake is the same thing.

Friendly coach, not a bank ad. We will not scold you for a takeout night. We will help you see where the quiet leaks are, and which two or three moves are worth doing this month.

What we cover

Twenty-two everyday categories — from Food & Groceries, Housing, and Utilities to Travel, Insurance, Technology, and Sports. We stay out of get-rich-quick schemes, crypto tips, and anything that needs you to “become a different person” by Friday.

If you want to suggest a topic or correct something we got wrong for your province, write to us. We would rather be accurate than first.
