Is Cineplex CineClub Worth It in 2026? CineClub vs Paying with Scene+ in Canada

Cineplex CineClub is worth it in Canada if you see at least one movie a month at Cineplex and would otherwise pay the regular ticket price, as of 1 October 2026. Since 15 July 2026, CineClub costs $10.99 a month or $120.89 a year, and it includes one monthly ticket credit, extra tickets at $10.99, 20% off food and drinks and no online booking fees, according to Cineplex. If you go less than once a month, or only on discount days, paying per ticket and collecting Scene+ points is usually cheaper. The July changes also replaced the old 50 bonus points per redeemed credit with the standard Scene+ earn rate of 3 points per $1 on regular tickets and 6 points per $1 on premium tickets.

What changed on 15 July 2026

Cineplex raised the CineClub price for the first time since the program launched in 2021 at $9.99 a month. It also changed how members earn Scene+ points and clarified how ticket benefits apply to Event Cinema. Cineplex said there are no changes to the other benefits, including 20% off food and drinks and no online booking fees.

For credits unused by 15 July 2026, Cineplex said it would add a one-time Scene+ top-up by 15 August 2026 to make up the difference between the old and new earn rates.

How CineClub works

Each month of membership comes with a ticket credit you can use for a regular showing. If you want a premium format, you can use a credit and pay the difference. You can buy additional tickets for yourself or friends at the Everyday Member-Priced Ticket rate. Members pay no online booking fee and get 20% off food and drinks at Cineplex concessions. The break-even math

Regular ticket prices at Cineplex vary by city, theatre, format and time of day, so there is no single national price. To work out your own break-even, look up the regular adult price at the theatre you use most and compare it with what you would pay as a member.

1. Find your usual regular ticket price before tax, plus the online booking fee if you buy online.
2. Count how many movies you realistically see at Cineplex each month, using the last six months as a guide.
3. Add what you usually spend on food and drinks per visit.
4. Compare: without CineClub, tickets plus fees plus snacks; with CineClub, $10.99 a month plus extra member tickets plus snacks at 20% off.
5. If the CineClub total is lower in a typical month, it is worth it for you.

Annual or monthly?

The annual membership at $120.89 equals 11 monthly payments, so you effectively get one month free. That is worth it only if you are sure you will keep going all year. Monthly membership lets you cancel in a slow month, or join only for a summer of blockbusters and cancel in the fall. Cineplex lets you cancel monthly membership, and you keep using it until the end of the paid period; check the current terms before joining.

Scene+ points: how much they are worth

Scene+ points can be redeemed for movie tickets, food and other rewards, generally at 1,000 points for $10 off, which works out to 1 cent a point. At 3 points per $1 on a regular ticket, a $15 ticket earns 45 points, worth about 45 cents. Points are a small bonus; they should not decide whether CineClub is worth it. You can earn Scene+ points with or without CineClub, and you can link a Scene+ account to other partners to earn faster.

Example with made-up inputs: three moviegoers

These numbers are an example with made-up inputs. They are not real Cineplex ticket prices. Assume a regular ticket costs $16 plus a $1.50 online booking fee, snacks cost $15 a visit, and CineClub is $10.99 a month with member tickets at $10.99.

The occasional moviegoer pays more with CineClub, because the membership costs more than half a ticket. The monthly moviegoer saves about $9.50 a month: the membership replaces the ticket and fee, and snacks are 20% off ($12 instead of $15). The frequent moviegoer saves about $28.50 a month: one included ticket, two member tickets at $10.99 and three discounted snack orders. In this example, CineClub pays off as soon as you see one movie a month.

Cheaper ways to see movies

• Discount days and early showings, where offered, can cost less than a regular ticket.
• Redeeming Scene+ points for tickets.
• Gift cards bought on sale during the holidays.
