Black Friday and Boxing Day Beauty Deals in Canada (2026): What's Worth Stocking Up On
A beauty sale is a saving only when you were going to buy that product anyway, and only for the amount you will finish before the date on the package. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Boxing Day are calendar dates. They are not a quality ranking, and they are not a reason to build a drawer of backups. This page is the replenish-first test. Gift sets and advent calendars stay on the gift-set guide. Shoppers points events stay on the Shoppers beauty guide. Clothing sale timing stays on the clothing calendar. US-origin duty and surtax stay on the US beauty orders guide.
Disclosure: Discounted retailer gift cards and cash-back portal offers are offer types. Saving Optimizer may earn a commission if a partner link is added later. No gift-card or portal partnership is claimed. A cheaper card, or a portal credit, does not make an unused bottle a saving. Education only.
Key takeaways
- In 2026 the calendar dates are Friday 27 November (Black Friday), Monday 30 November (Cyber Monday), and Saturday 26 December (Boxing Day). Those are dates, not discount levels.
- Stock a replenishable you already finish. Skip a new shade, a tool you do not need, and a set whose claimed worth you have not rebuilt from prices you can see.
- The Competition Bureau's ordinary-price guidelines, dated 16 October 2009, use a volume test and a time test. The Bureau's page says those guidelines are under review after changes to the Competition Act. A crossed-out price is a claim, not a proof.
- Shoppers Drug Mart's homepage, checked 29 Sep 2026, showed a 20-times points offer on a spend of $75 or more on cosmetics, fragrances, skin care, and beauty tools, ending 1 October. That is a points event on that page, not a Black Friday price.
- Perfumes and toilet waters, lip make-up, eye make-up, manicure or pedicure preparations, and some other hair preparations are on the 50 percent surtax list only when the goods originate in the United States. The list is specific tariff lines, not all beauty products.
Dates: 27 November, 30 November, 26 December
Write the three dates down before you look at a flyer. In 2026, Black Friday is 27 November, Cyber Monday is 30 November, and Boxing Day is 26 December. October is the month to record what you already use. November is the month those three dates fall in. December's Boxing Day is the third date, not a second chance to buy what you already skipped for a reason. January is when an unopened backup either earns its place or becomes waste.
This page does not quote a 2026 holiday return extension. Shoppers Drug Mart and Sephora Canada each publish a returns page. Read the one that matches where you paid, including any line about opened cosmetics, final sale, and whether a sale price changes the window. The general method for Canadian return rules is the return-policy guide. A price-adjustment window, if the retailer offers one, is on that retailer's own page. Do not assume Boxing Day resets a November purchase.
A gift card bought at a discount is still spent at the retailer's prices. A cash-back portal credits an offer you accept on the portal's terms. Neither one changes the date on the bottle or the return rule. If the card or the portal is the only reason the total looks lower, run the replenish test first.
Replenishables vs impulse buys
A replenishable is a product you already empty on a schedule you can name: a moisturiser you finish, a sunscreen you use through the year, a fragrance you already wear, a cleanser you do not abandon after a week. An impulse buy is a shade you have not tried, a tool that replaces one that still works, or a set whose extra items you would not have paid for alone. The sale price does not move a product from one column to the other.
Sunscreen is a label question before it is a sale question. Read the DIN or NPN and the expiry date, using the method on the sunscreen guide. Fragrance is a price-per-millilitre question, on the fragrance guide. A hair dryer or straightener is a cost-per-year question, on the hair-tool guide, and only if the tool you own has actually failed. Make-up you already use can be a replenishable. A new colour is a sample problem, not a stock-up.
Gift-with-purchase follows the same split. Keep the gift in the total only if you would have bought that item, or a close substitute, at a price you can see. The advent and gift-set guide is the worksheet for claimed worth. A portal or a discounted gift card applies to the amount you were going to spend. It does not rescue a basket of products you will throw out.
Points events vs price discounts
A price discount changes what you pay today. A points event changes how many points that purchase earns. A redemption event changes what points you already hold are worth at the till. They are different levers. Buying something extra to hit a points threshold is a price increase with a points sticker on it.
The PC Optimum program benefits table, checked 29 Sep 2026, prints 15 points per dollar on eligible products at Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix, and it says every 10,000 points is like $10 of free stuff at Shoppers and at the grocery banners in that column. The same table lists points events as their own row, including a 20-times example type, and it labels spend-and-get figures as examples. Shoppers Drug Mart's homepage, checked the same day, showed one live line: 20 times the points when you spend $75 or more on cosmetics, fragrances, skin care, and beauty tools, ending 1 October, plus an in-store Moredays window of 1 to 7 October marked as coming soon. Read the offer in your account before you treat either line as the offer on the day you shop. How to hold points for a redemption event is the bonus-redemption guide.
Compare the levers on the basket you were already going to buy. If the price discount is on that basket, write the dollar difference. If the points event is on that basket, convert the extra points at the rate the benefits table states, 10,000 points like $10, unless a redemption event you can see says otherwise. Then subtract anything you will not use. The larger number wins only inside that basket.
Checking reference prices
A "was" price, a "regular" price, or an "after sale" price is an ordinary-price claim. The Competition Bureau's enforcement guidelines on ordinary price claims are dated 16 October 2009. The Bureau's page, checked 29 Sep 2026, says it is reviewing those guidelines after changes to the Competition Act, and that the publication is guidance, not a legal document. The tests in the guidelines are still the ones the page sets out.
The volume test in those guidelines is met when more than 50 percent of sales are at or above the reference price. The time period named for that test is the twelve months before or after the claim, and it may be shorter for the nature of the product. The time test is met when the product is offered at or above the reference price for more than 50 percent of the period considered. That period is named as the six months before or after the claim, and it may also be shorter. A seasonal product can have a shorter window. A clearance can be a different case when it is clearly marked as clearance and the original price was offered in good faith. None of this is a finding about a particular flyer. It is the test you use when you screenshot a price.
Do the screenshot before the sale week, on the size you will actually buy. If you cannot see a reference price that passes one of those tests, treat the sale price as the price, not as a saving. The Bureau's Information Centre number on that page is 1-800-348-5358. This page is not a competition-law opinion.
Shelf life when stocking up
The date that matters is the one printed on the package you are holding: an expiry date, a best-before date, or an open-jar symbol with a number of months after opening. This guide does not assign a universal number of months to a moisturiser, a perfume, or a sunscreen. If the package does not print a date, do not invent one, and do not buy a second bottle until you know when you will finish the first.
Write a one-line rule for each replenishable. Example with made-up inputs: you finish one 50 millilitre moisturiser every four months, so two bottles is eight months of product. If the package date is sooner than eight months from today, the second bottle fails the test even when it is on sale. Your months and your bottle size replace the made-up ones. Opened product is a return question. See the retailer's page before you assume a used jar can go back.
A US-origin product can also change the landed cost. Canada's counter-tariffs are the United States Surtax Order (2026), SOR/2026-186, in force 8 September 2026. Customs Notice 26-23, dated 7 September 2026 and checked 29 Sep 2026, says the surtax is 15, 25, or 50 percent of the value for duty depending on the schedule, and that it applies to goods that originate in the United States, including shipments under the de minimis thresholds. For a personal import, US origin means the goods are marked as a good of the United States, even if they ship from another country. Goods made elsewhere are not subject to the surtax. On the 2026 Customs Tariff chapter 33, checked the same day, perfumes and toilet waters (3303.00.00), lip make-up (3304.10.00), eye make-up (3304.20.00), and manicure or pedicure preparations (3304.30.00) show a most-favoured-nation rate of 6.5 percent and United States Tariff treatment of Free. Schedule 3 of the Order puts those lines, and 3305.90.00 (other hair preparations), on the 50 percent list. Powders (3304.91), other beauty and skin-care preparations including sunscreen (3304.99), shampoos (3305.10), oral hygiene (3306), and shaving preparations and deodorants (3307) are not on that list. Whether a bottle is classified on one of those lines, and whether it qualifies for United States Tariff treatment, is something to check with CBSA (1-800-461-9999) or your carrier. How a courier or Canada Post collects the surtax on a small order is the same check. The Department of Finance product list mirrors the schedules.
| Category | Default | Why | Before you buy a backup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunscreen | Replenish only | You already use it, and the package has a date. A sale does not extend that date. | Read the DIN or NPN and the expiry. See the retailer's return rule for an opened tube. |
| Fragrance | Replenish the bottle you finish | A new scent is a trial, not a stock-up. Price per millilitre is on the fragrance guide. | Confirm format and size. If it is marked as a good of the United States, read the surtax row below. |
| Skincare | Replenish what you empty | An open-jar symbol and an expiry date cap how many jars you can hold. | Count months of use against the package date. Skip a new active you have not tried. |
| Make-up | Skip unless you already finish that shade | A colour you might not wear is waste, even at a lower price. | See the return page for opened colour cosmetics before you rely on taking it back. |
| Hair tools | Skip unless the one you own has failed | A tool is cost per year, not a holiday impulse. Warranty and recalls are separate. | Read the warranty card and search the recalls site. A points offer is not a price cut. |
| Date | What it is | Return rule | Price adjustment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 27 November 2026 | Black Friday, a Friday on the calendar | See the retailer. Shoppers Drug Mart and Sephora Canada each have a returns page. No 2026 holiday extension is quoted here. | See the retailer. Do not assume a later sale refunds the difference. |
| 30 November 2026 | Cyber Monday, the Monday after that Friday | See the retailer. An online order may use the delivery date as the start. Read that sentence on the page. | See the retailer. |
| 26 December 2026 | Boxing Day, a Saturday on the calendar | See the retailer. A November purchase is not automatically inside a December window. | See the retailer, including any cutoff that falls before Boxing Day. |

Frequently asked questions
Are Black Friday beauty deals worth it in Canada?
They are worth it when the item is one you already finish, the package date covers how long the backup will sit, and the reference price passes a real test. The Competition Bureau's ordinary-price guidelines, dated 16 October 2009, describe a volume test and a time test, and the Bureau says those guidelines are under review. A crossed-out price by itself is not that test. A points offer or a discounted gift card does not change the answer.
What beauty products are safe to stock up on?
Stock the replenishables you already empty: sunscreen you use before the expiry date, skincare you finish, a fragrance you already wear, and a make-up shade you already use up. Skip a new colour, a hair tool that replaces one that still works, and a gift set whose extra items you would not buy. Read the date on the package. This page does not give a universal shelf life.
Is Boxing Day better than Black Friday for beauty?
Neither date is better as a rule. In 2026 they are 27 November and 26 December, with Cyber Monday on 30 November. Compare the reference price, the points offer you can actually load, and whether you will finish the product. A December sale does not repair a November purchase you should not have made.
Can I return beauty products bought on sale?
Read the returns page for the retailer that took the payment. This guide does not quote a 2026 holiday extension for Shoppers Drug Mart or Sephora Canada. Final-sale stickers and opened products are decided on that page, not by the fact that the item was on sale. Keep the receipt until the window you read has passed.
Do US-made beauty products cost more because of the counter-tariffs?
They can, when the goods originate in the United States and the tariff line is on a schedule of the United States Surtax Order (2026). Perfumes and toilet waters, lip make-up, eye make-up, manicure or pedicure preparations, and other hair preparations under 3305.90.00 are on the 50 percent list. Powders, other skin care including sunscreen, shampoos, and deodorants are not on that list. Whether your bottle is on one of those lines, and how a courier collects the surtax, is something to check with CBSA (1-800-461-9999) or your carrier.
